From 6th of April 2015 anyone applying for a UK visa valid for more than 6 months will be required to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). Payment of the IHS will entitle the visa holder to use the National Health System in the UK for the full duration of their stay in the UK.

The cost of the IHS is £624 per year of your visa for an adult and £470 per year for children and students. The IHS is payable in full upfront when you submit your visa application. So, for example, an adult applying for a UK ancestry visa which will be valid for 5 years will be required to pay £3,120 upfront for their IHS.
